!The Challenge
A 3-location restaurant group in a competitive urban market was running at 70% occupancy on weekends but dropping to 40-50% on weeknights and lunches. They were spending $3,000/month on food delivery platform promotions (high margin erosion) and social media ads (low attribution) with no content strategy and a website that ranked for almost no local searches.
⚙The Strategy
Built a 6-month local SEO and content program: restaurant-specific local pages targeting the highest-converting local restaurant searches, a weekly blog featuring chef stories and seasonal menu content, Google Business Profile optimization and review response system, seasonal occasion content (date night, birthday, corporate lunch, etc.), and a local event and dining guide content strategy. AI helped with content drafting and GBP response templates; the restaurant team provided the authentic chef and menu perspective.
✓The Results
6 months post-launch: weeknight occupancy from 45% to 78%. Organic search now drives 35% of online reservations (was near zero). Delivery platform spend reduced by 70% as direct bookings increased. The restaurant now ranks in top 3 for 12 high-intent local restaurant searches including several competitive "date night" and "special occasion" terms.
The Local SEO Problem Most Restaurants Ignore
When we audited the three restaurants'' online presence, the pattern was familiar: good social media aesthetics, active Instagram, reasonable Google Business Profile ratings — and a website that ranked for almost nothing except the brand name.
The most searched restaurant queries in their city ("best date night restaurant [city]," "romantic restaurant for anniversary [neighborhood]," "corporate lunch [area]") drove zero traffic to these restaurants because they had no content targeting these terms.
The revenue sitting in those uncaptured searches: significant. Each reservation generates $80-120 in average spend. Ranking for 12 high-intent local searches, averaging 200 searches per month per term, at a 2% conversion rate to reservation = 48 additional reservations per month across the group. At $95 average: $4,560/month in incremental revenue from organic search.
The Occasion-Based Content Strategy
The highest-converting restaurant searches are occasion-based: "where to take my partner for our anniversary," "best restaurant for a business dinner," "fun birthday dinner [city]." These searches have purchase intent in the query itself.
We created dedicated landing pages for each occasion the restaurants served: romantic/date night, anniversary, birthday celebration, business lunch/dinner, birthday party group bookings, corporate event catering.
Each page: what makes the restaurant ideal for this occasion (specific menu elements, ambiance details, private dining options), how to book, and a photo that captures the occasion''s feel. These pages converted at 4x the homepage conversion rate because they matched the visitor''s specific intent.
The Chef Story Content
A weekly short-form piece featuring the head chef''s perspective: seasonal ingredient sourcing, dish development stories, cooking philosophy, market visits. These pieces were genuine brand content that built the kind of connection with the restaurant that keeps guests coming back.
They also provided the content that food bloggers, local media, and review platforms want to feature — earning earned media at zero cost.
