Video Marketing for Consultants Who Hate Being on Camera
You do not need to love being on camera to benefit from video. Here is the low-friction video strategy for consultants who would rather write.

The Camera Reluctance Is Normal
The majority of consultants and professionals who have never published video avoid it for the same reason: they feel awkward, over-analyze their appearance, and assume the result will be embarrassing.
These feelings are universal among first-time video creators. They do not indicate that you will be bad on video. They indicate that you have not done it enough times to become comfortable.
The path is simple and uncomfortable: make more videos. Comfort comes from repetition, not from preparation.
The Low-Friction Video Formats
Not all video requires being on camera. Three formats that produce strong results with minimal camera discomfort:
Screen-share video: Record your screen with voiceover. Walk through a framework, analyze an example, review a case study. Your face appears in a small corner thumbnail or not at all. Educators and analysts use this format to high effect.
Slideshow video: A designed slide deck with recorded narration. The slides are on screen; your voice carries the content. This is the lowest-barrier entry to video and still performs well on LinkedIn and YouTube.
Talking-head with minimal setup: A smartphone, decent lighting (window light works), and a quiet space. The production standard required for LinkedIn and educational content is significantly lower than most people assume. Authenticity often outperforms production quality.
Getting Over the Camera Barrier
Film 10 videos before evaluating quality. The first five will be uncomfortable. The quality will be variable. By videos 7–10, you will notice yourself being more natural, less self-conscious, and more capable of delivering the content clearly.
The mistake is filming one video, watching it once with a critical eye, and deciding video is not for you. That conclusion is premature.
