The Measurement Problem

AI marketing is easy to do and hard to measure. You can see that you're publishing more content. You can see that followers are growing. But can you connect any of that to revenue?

Without a measurement framework, you're flying blind — spending time and money on a system you can't prove is working.

The Metrics That Matter

There are three tiers of metrics in AI marketing:

Tier 1: Activity metrics (what you control) Content pieces published per week, LinkedIn posts per week, email sequences live, lead magnets deployed. These tell you whether your system is running — not whether it's working.

Tier 2: Engagement metrics (early signals) Profile views, post impressions, email open rates, website sessions from content. These tell you whether your content is connecting — not whether it's converting.

Tier 3: Conversion metrics (what pays the bills) Discovery calls booked, proposals sent, clients closed, revenue attributed to content channel. These tell you whether your system is making money.

The Attribution Framework

The hardest part of content marketing ROI is attribution. Someone reads your LinkedIn post, forgets about you, reads your blog 6 weeks later, signs up for your newsletter, then books a call 3 months after that.

Which piece gets credit?

The practical answer: ask every new client "how did you find me?" and "what made you reach out now?" Their answers will tell you which pieces of content are doing the heaviest lifting.

A Simple Tracking Setup

Column A: Content piece title and date published Column B: Platform (LinkedIn, blog, email) Column C: Engagement metrics (views, clicks, opens) Column D: Discovery calls attributed to that piece (based on client surveys) Column E: Revenue from those calls

Update this weekly. After 90 days, you'll have a clear picture of which content is driving revenue and which is just driving vanity metrics.
