Prompting Is a Marketing Skill Now
The marketers who will win in the next 3 years are not the ones with access to better AI tools — everyone has access to the same tools. They're the ones who know how to prompt effectively.
Bad prompting produces generic output. Great prompting produces work you'd be proud to publish.
Here are the five prompt structures I use for 80% of my content work.
Prompt 1: The Expert Reframe
"You are a [specific role] writing for [specific audience]. They already know [baseline assumption]. They do NOT know [key insight]. Write a [format] that starts with [hook type] and ends with [CTA]."
This forces specificity at every level. The more specific the role, audience, and knowledge gap, the better the output.
Prompt 2: The Steel Man
"Here is my argument: [your position]. Steel man the strongest counterargument. Then write a paragraph that acknowledges the counterargument but ultimately defends my original position."
This produces more honest, persuasive content. It also helps you identify weak points in your thinking before your audience does.
Prompt 3: The Specificity Injection
"Rewrite this paragraph and make every claim more specific. Replace any vague words (many, some, often, several) with numbers, names, or examples."
Specificity is what separates content that feels authoritative from content that feels generic. This prompt fixes the most common quality problem in AI output.
Prompt 4: The Voice Match
"Here is a paragraph I wrote: [your paragraph]. Now write three more paragraphs in the same voice, continuing the argument."
After this prompt runs, compare the output to your original. Edit toward your original's voice, not away from it.
Prompt 5: The Format Multiplier
"Here is a 600-word article: [article]. Reformat this into: (1) a 3-part LinkedIn series, (2) a 5-email nurture sequence, (3) 8 short-form social posts. Keep the core arguments the same but adapt tone and format for each platform."
This single prompt is worth hours of manual reformatting work.
