A content calendar fails when it is built around dates instead of decisions. This template works because it pre-decides the two things that kill consistency — what to post and what format — leaving you only the writing. Twelve posts a month, under four hours a week.

The System Behind the Template

3 pillars × 5 formats = 15 combinations before you ever repeat yourself.

Your pillars come from your positioning — for example, mine are AI marketing systems, personal branding, and build-in-public lessons. Your five rotating formats:

  1. How-to — teach one process
  2. Story — one moment + one lesson
  3. Opinion — take a side on a live debate
  4. Mistake — what went wrong and what it cost
  5. Question — start the conversation you want to be known for

The 30-Day Grid

Posting Monday / Wednesday / Friday:

WeekMondayWednesdayFriday
1Pillar A · How-toPillar B · StoryPillar C · Opinion
2Pillar B · How-toPillar C · MistakePillar A · Question
3Pillar C · How-toPillar A · StoryPillar B · Opinion
4Pillar A · MistakePillar B · QuestionPillar C · Story

Every pillar appears weekly; no format repeats on the same weekday twice in a row. Copy the grid, attach one topic per cell, done — that decision session takes 20 minutes once a month.

The Weekly Workflow (Under 4 Hours)

  • Sunday, 45–60 min: batch-draft the week's three posts with your AI workflow (master context prompt + this week's three cells)
  • Sunday, 30 min: human edit pass — real numbers in, AI-tells out
  • Mon/Wed/Fri, 20 min each: publish, then reply to comments
  • Daily optional, 15 min: comment on five posts in your niche

Filling the Topic Cells Fast

Run this monthly prompt: "My three pillars are [A, B, C]. My audience is [who]. Generate 15 specific post topics — 5 per pillar — each matched to one format from: how-to, story, opinion, mistake, question. Avoid topics I've covered: [paste last month's grid]."

Pick 12 of the 15. Park the extras in a backlog — they are next month's head start.

Tracking (One Line Per Post)

A simple sheet: date, pillar, format, hook, saves, comments, profile views, inbound DMs. At month-end, find your two best performers and schedule a sequel to each. The calendar is a learning loop, not just a schedule.

FAQ

Is 3 posts a week enough? For authority-building, yes — 12 consistent monthly posts beat 25 erratic ones. Daily posting only helps if quality survives it.

What if something topical comes up? Swap it in, push the planned post down a slot. The grid is a default, not a prison.

Should I plan more than 30 days ahead? No — beyond a month, your performance data should be reshaping the plan. Quarterly themes, monthly grids, weekly drafting.
